Ok, thought that I would say a little about Savannah before I forgot. This
was going to be my fun weekend. No extra races. Only the women's races and
enjoy Savannah.
We got to Savannah Friday night and drove around looking at the beautiful houses
and buildings. The moss hanging from the trees is a very lovely sight, even
though I know it isn't good for the trees it still looks so cool.
Saturday am was the first crit. I was going to go for the cash primes and then
the win. Well, they kept calling out gift certificates. The dollar amounts
are the points toward the Most Aggressive Rider jersey, which I was leading.
I didn't want to loose the jersey so I went for several of the primes any way.
There were several attacks by the 4 Forum girls, but the field chased everything
down for the most part. There was a horrible crash and Lynn Vicchiola went
down. I have known Lynn for several years and saw that it was her bike. I thought
that we should at least be neutral when we passed her, but others thought otherwise
and tried to get away. It came down to the final sprint. It was a pretty long
straight road and I got a little nervous and jumped early. No one came around
and I had my first win of the weekend.
TT
The tt was another story. Jeremy and I watched the other races and lazed for
a bit. We got some stuff at a local bike shop, and I actually left some wheels
there accidentally and had to go back to get them! Yikes #1.
We then headed back to the hotel. I still had to shower, change, put aero bars
on and get my disc working. With Jeremy working as the mechanic and putting
my bike together I went to shower and change. I couldn't locate my booties
and time was ticking away. Yikes #2.
We got the aero bars on and somewhat adjusted and then headed to the course.
We were cutting it close. We stopped where we thought it started and they told
us it was another two miles. I jumped out, and jumped on my bike. I motorpaced
behind the car the 2 miles to the start!! Nice warmup! Yikes #3!!
I get to the line of women for the start and girls with numbers larger than
mine were going! Did I miss my start? Am I already behind? Yikes #4. Luckily,
the number system didn't matter--Whew!
I realized I had on my driving glasses and not my team affiliated glasses..Oops,
Yikes #5.
Bang I was off.
