Aaron’s Cycling Team Dominates Savannah
Georgia Cup
The Aaron’s Cycling Team traveled to Savannah for the second installment
of the Georgia Cup Series this past weekend. The event included a races Saturday
and Sunday. Aaron’s dominated the entire weekend.
First, in the Women’s race, Shannon Hutchison racked up wins on both
days. Shannon’s sprint once again proved to be too powerful for the other
girls. Shannon has already recorded four wins on the early season!
The Men’s Elite Team took a strong group down to Savannah with intentions
of gaining the leader’s jersey for Erick Pierce who was in fourth place
headed into the weekend. The team’s tactics for the first race were to
attempt to get Erick into a breakaway. They were successful halfway through
the race with Erick jumping off the front of the group with another rider.
The breakaway stayed away until the end with Erick winning the sprint!
On the second day, the team’s goal was to sit on the front of the group
to keep breakaways from occurring and set Erick up for the final sprint. The
team executed this plan to perfection. On the final lap the team had five riders
at the front of the group and pushed the pace so hard that no one could attack.
Into the final corner, Erick found himself pushed out in the wind, so he buried
his head for the sprint. Teammate Robbie Kollar, last year’s Georgia
Cup Champion, was still drafting and unsure whether Erick would be able to
hold on for the sprint. Robbie went for it taking the win with Erick in second
and Dana Hamrick in fifth!
Erick’s first and second places for the weekend put him in the Georgia
Cup leader’s jersey. The team is now in full control of the series and
plans on holding onto the jersey for the remainder of the season. Aaron’s
Cycling has quickly established itself the premier Elite cycling team in the
southeast.
